Breast Reduction and Breast Reconstruction Following Mastectomy

Breast Reduction in Lethbridge

Dr. Secretan is a highly skilled plastic surgeon in Lethbridge, Alberta with extensive training, experience and a special interest in reconstructive surgery. Through communication and his advanced surgical skills, he is committed to helping patients achieve the results they desire in order to restore function, confidence and self-esteem.

The goal of breast reconstruction is to restore one or both breasts to near normal shape, appearance, symmetry and size following mastectomy, lumpectomy or congenital deformities.

While mastectomy is a traumatic experience for any woman, breast reconstruction is an alternative for women of any age whose health is well enough to tolerate a general anesthetic.

Breast reconstruction generally falls into two categories.

  1. Implant-based reconstruction
  2. Flap reconstruction

Implant reconstruction relies on breast implants to help form a new breast mound. Flap (or autologous) reconstruction uses the patient’s own tissue from another part of the body to form a new breast.

Making a decision about breast reconstruction can feel daunting. When working with us, Dr. Secretan will discuss risks and benefits to help you determine the best options for reconstruction.

Here’s what one of our patients shared with us about her experience:

“I had reconstructive surgery following a double mastectomy performed by Dr. Secretan. I think we can all agree that this is a very emotional, painful and terrifying situation. Dr. Secretan made every step of the process as pleasant as possible. I cannot imagine having a different doctor under these circumstances, and I truly believe fate stepped in to make sure I got exactly who I needed to get the optimal results. He is VERY pleasant to be around. Straightforward, but always kind, and highly skilled. I am forever grateful for the care I received and would absolutely recommend him to anyone and everyone.”
