Are breast implants right for you?
Are breast implants right for you? For some women, breast augmentation is a way to feel more confident. For others, it’s part of rebuilding the breast for various conditions. To be a good candidate and to know if breast augmentation surgery is right for you, you should:
Educate yourself
Take time to become informed. Your plastic surgeon is your most valuable source. Trust their expertise to help you understand the risks and benefits associated with breast implants and surgery.
Do it for yourself
Your personal motivation for surgery is one of the most important considerations in your decision-making process. Spend some time evaluating why you believe surgery is right for you.
Set realistic expectations
To feel good about your body, you need to have realistic expectations. There are many reasons to enhance the size and shape of your breasts, and the right fit is one that balances what you want with what will compliment your body type and what your breast tissue will allow.
Pictured here is an example of Dr. Secretan’s work. He was successfully able to enhance this patient’s breast size. As you can see, they look natural and fit with the overall proportions of her body.

Breast implants are composed of a silicone shell with a filler.
- Saline implants contain a salt-water solution.
- Silicone implants contain silicone gel.
Silicone gel-filled breast implants were licensed by Health Canada in 2006 and are used extensively throughout the world. They are often preferred over saline-filled implants for several reasons:
- Silicone implants look and feel more natural
- Hold their shape better over time
- Provide high satisfaction to both patients and surgeons
- Have less complications, such as rupturing and capsular contracture
- Prove more implant sizes
