When it comes to lip injections, how big is TOO big?
When it comes to lip injections, how big is TOO big? Yes! There is such a thing. As you know, here at Lethbridge Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, we are committed to sharing helpful information to provide more awareness around cosmetic injections. We share this information on our blog, website, and Facebook and Instagram.
The answer really depends on individual anatomy and your practitioners understanding of anatomy and sense of restraint. Rest assured, Dr. Secretan will assess the potential space in your lips, and fill accordingly.
That said, something that you may not know is that when you repeatedly enlarge the lips and pump them as big as possible, the filler can act as a tissue expander. That results in permanently stretching the skin, causing lips to sag and deflate when the filler eventually degrades. Sadly, that leaves you in worse shape than when you started.
Since this isn’t a textbook risk or complication (like, say — swelling, bruising, or a rogue lump), injectors rarely discuss the potential long-term pitfalls with patients.
In the event that you’re left with loose lips as a result of habitual over-inflation, the only remedy is lip reduction surgery. The process involves trimming away the excess skin which can leave scars. We don’t want this for you!
We see so much overfilling on social media these days and feel obligated to continue to educate and guide this industry. If you start to question whether or not your own perfectly adequate lips seem too small in comparison to what you see online, come and chat with us.
